Free greyhounds They run for play, not for a bet.

A greyhound runs for play. At racetracks he runs so others can bet: bred to compete and, once he stops winning, often abandoned. In 2026 Chile is closer than ever to banning it.

What it is

A bet on someone else's life.

Greyhound racing turns a dog into a betting tool. They are bred to compete, trained in conditions the law barely regulates and, once they stop winning, many are abandoned.

With Free greyhounds we show what happens at the racetracks and add public pressure so that Congress passes the law banning dog racing in Chile.

Why we do it

On the track: muzzle, sand and bets.

For a greyhound, running is play. On the track it becomes work: he reaches 70 km/h muzzled, on sand, at risk of fractures and injuries, and every race is a bet on his body. There are an estimated 300 racetracks in Chile, most of them unregulated.

How it works

This is how we do it.

  1. 01

    Show

Tell on social media what happens at the racetracks, with data and sources.

  2. 02

    Amplify

Get more and more people to know the campaign and share it.

  3. 03

    Press

Let every lawmaker know that people are watching and expect their vote.

Its value

The change we seek, and who it serves.

i.

For the animals

Thousands of dogs stop living for a bet.

ii.

For people

A law that reflects what a dog-loving society already thinks.

iii.

For the movement

A legislative precedent to end other shows that use animals.

Journey

What's done and what's next.

  1. 2021

Bill No. 15,387-12, which seeks to prohibit and sanction dog races, is introduced in the Chamber.

  2. 2024

The Chamber rejects a separate prohibition bill, No. 15,388-12: 58 for, 68 against and 13 abstentions.

  3. 18 Aug 2026

The Chamber approves Bill No. 15,387-12 in general: 80 for, 41 against and 7 abstentions.

  4. Process

General approval is not a law in force. The bill must complete the remaining parliamentary stages.

  5. Goal

No dog races held in Chile.
